چکیده

In this paper, a novel method is introduced to design Nyquist filters with prescribed inter symbol interference (ISI) energy. The computation is based on the iterative weighted least-squares optimization with a quadratic constraint. The weighted stop band and the tail energies of the Nyquist filter are minimized iteratively while the quadratic constraint prescribing the ISI energy is enforced. The Lagrange multiplier method and generalized singular value decomposition are utilized to solve the problem. By changing the weighting coe cient, one can make a trade-o↵ between the stop band energy and the tail energy (robustness to timing jitter) while the ISI energy is predetermined. The designed Nyquist filter, can be factorized to a minimum phase and a maximum phase FIR pulse shaping square-root Nyquist filters for the transmitter and receiver with a simple modification.

Optimized linear phase square-root Nyquist FIR filters for CDMA IS-95 and UMTS standards

In this paper, a novel method to design linear phase square-root Nyquist filters is introduced. The design procedure is posed as a quadratic programming problem with linear and quadratic constraints that can be solved using convex optimization packages. The flatness of the filter’s pass-band i.e., the pass-band ripple energy, is formulated as a quadratic function of the impulse response of the ...

Generalized raised-cosine filters

Data transmission over bandlimited channels requires pulse shaping to eliminate or control intersymbol interference (ISI). Nyquist filters provide ISI-free transmission. Here we introduce a phase compensation technique to design Nyquist filters. Phase compensation can be applied to the square-root of any zero-phase bandlimited Nyquist filter with normalized excess bandwidth less than or equal t...

An Improved Square-Root Nyquist Shaping Filter

A Nyquist filter can have any odd symmetric taper as a transition between its pass band and stop band. The most well known taper is the raised cosine (RC) taper specified in most communication standards. The square root (SRRC) Nyquist filter formed from this prototype exhibits high spectral side lobe levels that fail to meet severe spectral mask requirements. This paper presents a SR Nyquist fi...

A Family of Nyquist Filters Based on Generalized Raised-Cosine Spectra

Data transmission over bandlimited channels requires pulse shaping to eliminate or control Inter-Symbol Interference (ISI). A widely used filter for this purpose is the raised cosine filter which satisfies Nyquist’s first criterion. We design a phase compensator so that the square-root raised-cosine filter also satisfies Nyquist’s first criterion. Such a technique is particularly useful to acco...

Joint MMSE-FDE & Spectrum Combining for a Broadband Single-Carrier Transmission in the Presence of Timing Offset

Frequency-domain equalization (FDE) based on minimum mean square error (MMSE) is considered as a promising equalization technique for a broadband single-carrier (SC) transmission. When a square-root Nyquist filter is used at a transmitter and receiver to limit the signal bandwidth, the presence of timing offset produces the inter-symbol interference (ISI) and degrades the bit error rate (BER) p...
